Sheikh Nizam Mohammed Yaquby
Sheikh Nizam Mohammed Yaquby is an internationally acclaimed Shari’a / Shariah scholar in the Islamic banking industry. He has a background in both traditional Islamic sciences with senior scholars from different parts of the Muslim world and also a Master’s degree in Economics from McGill University in Canada.
Sheikh Nizam has taught Islamic subjects in Bahrain and lectured all over the world. He is a member of many International Boards including the Shari’a / Shariah Council of AAOIFI, Dow Jones Islamic Index, Central Bank of Bahrain Shari’a / Shariah Committee and IIFM Shari’a / Shariah Council.
Sheikh Nizam has edited several Arabic manuscripts and has more than 500 audio-visual lectures and lessons in both Arabic and English.
Sheikh Dr. Osama Mohammed Saad Bahar
Sheikh Bahar is a prominent, highly-respected Shari’a / Shariah scholar from Bahrain. He is currently Head of the Shari’a / Shariah Compliance and Advisory at First Energy Bank, following earlier senior positions at Islamic banks in Bahrain including Head of Shari’a / Shariah Compliance at Al Salam Bank and, before that, Shari’a / Shariah Compliance Officer at ABC Islamic Bank.
Sheikh Bahar is also a Member of the Shari’a / Shariah Supervisory Board of the Global Banking Corporation, International Investment Bank, Allianz Global Investors, Allianz Takaful (Bahrain), International Tharawat and Family Bank; and Shari’a / Shariah Advisor for Sakana Holistic Housing Solutions and Reef (Real Estate Finance).
Sheikh Bahar was awarded his Doctorate degree from Lahaye University in Holland, his Master Degree from Al Emam Al Awzae University in Lebanon and his Bachelor degree in Islamic Shari’a / Shariah from Prince Abdul Qader University of Islamic Studies in Algeria.
Dr. Aznan Hasan
Dr. Aznan Hasan is an Assistant Professor in Islamic law and the former head of Islamic Law Department, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia. He is currently the President, Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS). He is also the Deputy Chairman, Shariah Advisory Council, Securities Commission and a member, Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia. He is also the Chairman, Shariah Advisory Board, Barclays Capital (DIFC, Dubai), a member, Shariah Advisory Board, ABSA Islamic Bank (South Africa), Amanahraya Berhad, Amanah Raya Investment Bank Labuan, Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and some other financial institutions and corporate bodies at both local and international level. He also serves as Shariah consultant to Maybank Investment Bank. He is a registered Shariah Advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic securities (Sukuk), Securities Commission of Malaysia. He is also a Member, National International Zakat Organisation (IZO) Coordination Committee, an advisory body established under the Prime Minister Department, and a member, Shariah Supervisory Board, Waqaf Foundation, a corporate entity formed by the Government to oversee the application of Waqaf in Malaysia.
Dr. Aznan Hasan received his first Degree in Shariah from University of al-Azhar. He then successfully completed his Master degree in Shariah from Cairo University with distinction (mumtaz). He then obtained his Ph. D from University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom.
Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki
Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki is currently the Head of Research Affairs, International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA). Apart from serving ISRA, he also serves as a Director of Affin Islamic Bank. He sits as a Chairman of Affin Bank Group Shariah Committee and Shariah consultant and advisor to several financial institutions and advisory firms including AIA AFG Takaful Berhad, AIA Takaful International, London- based Chain Mender Limited, London-based Halal Industries PLC, US-based United Chartered Bank (UCB), Singapore-based IFIS Business Advisory Pte Ltd and AFTAAS Shariah Advisory Sdn. Bhd.
He is also a member of Board of Studies for Islamic Finance Programme at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), University Utara Malaysia (UUM), University Tun Abdul Razak (UniRAZAK) and Associate Fellow at ISDEV, University Sains Malaysia (USM). He holds Master of Science degree in Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance and Ph.D in Islamic Banking and Finance from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has published in numerous international and national refereed academic journals. One of his articles entitled “Banking for the Poor: The Role of Islamic Banking in Microfinance Initiatives” was awarded the 2009 Outstanding Paper Award by a well-known international publisher Emerald Literati Network. Apart from that he has presented papers at both national and international conferences including London, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Bahrain, Doha, Kuwait, Berlin, Dubai, Tehran, Jakarta, Singapore and Brunei. He also conducts training in Islamic banking and finance and related areas to officers of Central Bank of Malaysia, banking practitioners, government officials and general public.
Dr. Asmadi Mohamed Naim
Dr. Asmadi Mohamed Naim currently is an Associate Professor of Islamic Finance & Banking Program, and a Dean of Islamic Business School (IBS), UUM College of Business, University Utara Malaysia (UUM), Shariah Adviser and Consultant of few Islamic financial institutions since 2008 where he involved directly in initiating and advising the structuring of Islamic banking products and commercial papers such as Islamic debt certificate, sukuk, etc.
He holds Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) from INCEIF in 2010 (as recipient of the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM) Shariah Scholarship Award) and Islamic Financial Planner (IFP) from FPAM and IBFIM in 2012. Prior to that, he graduated from University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan in 1997 in Islamic Jurisprudence and Legislation. He later obtained Masters and PhD degree in Fiqh and Usul Fiqh from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 1999 and 2004, specializing in Islamic law of contracts and Islamic finance practices. He is also external examiner at PhD level in the field of Islamic finance and Shariah for various reputable international and local universities such as Hong Kong University, International Islamic University Malaysia and Malaya University.
Apart from that, he is also a Council Member of Association of Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (ACIFP) and a working committee member of Association of Shariah Advisors of Malaysia (ASAS), and a member of the Ministry of Higher Education Committee of Malaysia for Islamic Finance, Takaful and Muamalat Administration Curriculum from 2010 until 2012.
He has authored few books and numerous articles (in Arabic, English and Malay) in Islamic finance and Shariah issues in reputable international publications and journals such as Global Islamic Finance Report 2011 (GIFR 2011), Journal of Islamic Accounting and Business Research (JIABR), ISRA International Journal and The Chancellor Guide to the Legal and Shari’a / Shariah Aspects of Islamic Finance; and national journals, books, magazines and newspapers. Currently he is in the Editorial Board of ISFIRE and a columnist for local national magazine.
Mufti Irshad Ahmad Aijaz
Mufti Irshad Ahmad Aijaz is appointed as the full time Shariah Adviser to the Bank. He comes from a leading family of scholars. His father, Maulana Muhammad Ashfaque Ahmad, is better known for translating in English the famous ‘Tafseer e Usmani’.
He graduated from Jamia Uloom Islamiyyah, Binnori Town, Karachi and he has done his Shadat-ul-Aalamia (Masters in Arabic and Islamic Studies) from there as well. Afterwards, he completed his Takhassus fi al-Iftaa (Specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence and Fatwa) from Jamia Darul Uloom, Karachi.
Mufti Irshad Ahmad is well versed in Islamic economics. Mufti Irshad has passed an Islamic economics course “Contemporary Business and Banking and its critical evaluation in the light of Shariah” from the Centre for Islamic Economics, Jamia Darul Uloom, Karachi. Mufti Irshad has also recently completed his MBA program from (AMI) Iqra University, Karachi. He is also presently associated with Iqra University as Lecturer in Islamic Studies and is enrolled in the MPhil program with specialization in Islamic Finance at (AMI) Iqra University, Karachi.
